In this job there is a lot of multi-tasking going on. We have radio traffic for all 3 agencies (PD, Fire, and EMS), the regular phone lines, 911, monitoring the cameras in booking, and officers walking in for whatever reason. Well, that's the short version anyway. We also have a few other radio frequencies that we monitor like the neighboring police dept and fire depts that we are mutual aid for. So we handle quite a few things at the same time and if you aren't paying attention to things, you can make duplicate calls, or get burned, or get someone hurt, and/or just look like a jack *ss... Moving on..
So, Sgt Talksalot calls out a pedestrian check on Pickastreet. It's one of our local kids who was just born to a bad family. He's actually not that bad of a kid, but he has the worst mother AND father. We won't go into the father, just take my word that he is a huge dirtball. His mother, we'll call her Sherry (and you will hear more about her later), is always drunk. She has been arrested 10-15 times for various things. So this poor kid was dealt a bad hand to begin with.
About 5 mins after Sgt Talksalot calls out the name of the kid, I get a phone call...
It's Sherry, his mother. She is hysterical. She's demanding an officer and saying that her son beat her. I asked her if she was injured and she said no, but he hit her and never took the trash out like he was supposed to. Some background-Her son is about 15years old-They live about 15mins away from Pickastreet if you were walking....
So another officer goes out there and Sgt Talksalot says he'll hang onto the son for now. The officer at Sherry's house then calls for EMS. EMS responds and then clears a few minutes later with a refusal. Hmm, that's strange, they were laughing on the radio when they cleared.. The officer with Sherry then calls Sgt Talksalot on the phone and Sgt Talksalot advises on the radio that he'll be clear and the son will be walking around town. OK, he's not in custody, so what's up??
One of the medics comes in to tell us that Sherry was in fine form tonight. Not only is she drunk, but when they walked in they thought they smelled Prego sauce or something. Then the officer asks them to look at Sherrys 'head wound'. Turns out she put Prego sauce (and probably ketchup for good measure) in her hair to make it look like her son hit her! Oh yes, you'll hear more about Sherry....
