The Day From Down Below...

Typical day: Walk into work about 10mins early to get the low down on what happened in the previous shift. Today was not a typical day.

They had a very young baby that was accidentally suffocated at the very beginning of the day, and the family had been in and out of the station and the baby daddy was calling from another state. And EMS was running all over Townsville, to the point that the crew that was supposed to be leaving ended up staying about 3 hours over so we could have 3 trucks staffed instead of just 2. There were still officers out at an assisted living facility with a man born around 1920ish who didn't know where he was, who he was, or what day it was... So that was their day...

I sit down and 911 rings within 5mins. Its about an intoxicated guy (who is a regular with our department) that is stumbling around and looking at an orange bike. No big deal.

The older man (from before who was born 1920's) family was shopping and didn't realize that he didn't follow them into the store. Whoa, what a great family, they were there for several hours and didn't notice. Oh well, at least his family was found. Best part was when EMS cleared and the supervisor said on the air, "he's with his family and uh, yeah, he's good to go." I was laughing so hard.

Next call, 3rd party saying that a girl made statements that she wanted to 'end it all'. She ends up denying everything and her mother is with her so the officers leave as there is nothing they can do.

An hour and 11mins into my shift, 911 rings and I get a hysterical lady yelling about a van that hit a little girl. The girl had a compound fracture and as my caller told me, "that's the kind where the bone is sticking out!!" That was the worst of the girls injuries, Thank God, but what a bad way to start the school year. And what a bad call for me to take. It was almost impossible to get information from the caller because she was freaking out so much!

It was just nutty today. I'd almost swear it was a full moon right now.
For being so small, Townsville sure gets busy. I'm only half done with my shift.
